If someone has one set of views promoted by their peers, their teachers, their family, everyone surrounding them, then who are they worrying about offending? No one, because they already have this completely onesided idea of "politcal correctness" in their minds.
People claim Conservatives need to be more open minded, tolerant and accepting. Acceptance works both ways. Recently, Tim Tebow had to trademark his "tebowing" image because people were using it to mock him and his faith. Some may argue that it's the equivalent to the celebration dance most athletes participate in after a great play. Those players dance to celebrate themselves and their teammates. Praying is to celebrate a Creator. Something or someone far greater than any human. Something or someone that deserves respect regardless or whether or not you believe. Quite frankly, I admire Tim Tebow for sticking up not only for himself, but for God too. When people watch others get down on one knee to pretend to pray to God, and take pictures to Instagram, sticking up for what you believe is right, is hard to do.
Comedians, televisions shows, everyday people make jokes about "tebowing" and Tebow. Like being religious is some sort of strupid trend to be ridiculed. What would happen if I mocked homosexuality? I would be verbally hanged by the administration at Fremd. There would be possible suspension and an apology I didn't mean would have to made. But everyone else can go right ahead and mock God, and Conservatives are suppose to take it. We're suppose to be tolerant. Whereas anyone with a different opinion can say whatever the hell they want.
Please, dear Liberals, tell me how that's equality.

I don't consider myself liberal or conservative, and I come from a family of a liberal mother and a conservative father (roughly... Thay are kinda middle-of-the-road).
ReplyDeleteI know we have had this discussion before, but I agree with you that the way people mock Your One True Love, Mr. Tim Tebow, is wrong. He should be able to express his religion however he wants to. And it is great that he does that despite the way people mock him.
About the slanted views of kids, everyone has them. We are naturally shaped by those around us, even you. I don't think it is right to go smashing on liberal kids for being influenced by their parents. That is completely natural. My dad has influenced me to be detatched from poitics, which is not always a good thing, just like yours has influenced your views, and just like a more liberal kid has been influenced by their own parents. I don't know if that is what you meant by that...but I( just felt like I should say it anyway.
Everyone's views are influenced by their parents, I agree with that. But in Illinois especially, considering the influence of teachers(who are for the most part Liberal), social normals, and parents. A child has a much higher chance at having very democratically slanted views. Most of their friends will be similar. Who are they worried about offending? Not Conservatives. We're like an endangered species here. :) I hope that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteYeah i guess that does make sense. pLus, the internet and social media are widely used by more liberally slanted people. But nobody is really worried about offending anyone, sometimes. Well, maybe I take that back. A more conservative student might feel they would be ostracized if they let themselves share their opinions.
DeleteI agree although I have a tendency to think of all religions equally although I must admit that mocking the varios sects of Christianity does pop up in conversation more frequently than say... the worship of discord (All hail the goddess Eris!!!). My opinion of relegion in general is pretty bad so that's that. :D Telling a first grader that they're going to Hell will do that to a person, *cough*evilbaptists*cough*
DeleteYes, Illinois is democrat, and yes, Liberals can be tactless, but it also depends on the people who are making fun or disrespecting religious groups. I'm super liberal, but that doesn't mean I'm going to be making a fool of Tebow because he's just thanking his god for helping him make the touchdown...! If he wants to, let him do it, not my problem, not my concern (you do what you wanna do, yo!) It IS indignant, and I completely understand how you feel, if we want this country to be united as it should, we have to stop being so ignorant with each other's feeling and just accept it.
